경제적 불평등이 악화되는 가운데 본 논문에서는 성경적 경제관이 우리가 직면한 경제 문제를 분석하고 해결하는데 유효한지 살펴보기 위해 토라(Torah)를 중심으로 성경적 경제관을 도출한 후 현대 경제학과의 연결지점을 찾아보았다. 토라의 경제관은 하나님 나라 구현이라는 관점에서 안식일과 희년 준수, 경제적 약자층을 위한 배려를 중심으로 확연히 드러난다. 토라에서 안식일, 희년, 경제적 약자층에 대한 배려를 담은 조항은 무한 증식하는 인간의 탐욕에 대한 경계 장치이자 생산수단의 궁극적 소유권이 하나님께 있음을 명시함으로써 물질적 생산의 극대화보다는 공동체내 상호 관계의 정상화를 추구하고 있다. 공동체내 상호 관계에 초점을 맞추고 있다는 점에서 토라의 경제관은 규범경제학의 주요 주제인 센(A. Sen)의 빈곤 개념과 연관지어 생각해 볼 수 있다. 센은 빈곤 개념을 개인의 소득 수준이 낮다는 의미를 넘어 상호 관계 속에서 기본적인 역량의 지속적인 상실로 보았는데 토라의 경제관에서 경제적 약자층을 대표하는 노예, 고아와 과부, 거류민은 센이 정의한 빈곤의 범주에 정확히 해당한다. 이러한 개념적 공유는 불평등이 심화되는 우리 시대에 노예, 고아와 과부, 거류민과 같은 계층은 누구이며 이들에 대해 토라에서 강조하는 사회적 배려와 지원을 어떻게 구현할지 논의하는데 귀중한 단초를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

In our time when inequality is deepening, this study draws Torah’s economic perspective and looks for a connection point with normative economics in order to examine whether the biblical economic view is still effective in analyzing and solving problems of inequality. In the light of the realization of the Kingdom of God, Sabbath, Jubilee, consideration for economically underprivileged are identified as the Torah’s economic perspective. The three Torah items may restrain humans from being captivated to unlimited proliferation of greed and proclaim God as the ultimate owner of capitals for production more focusing on restoring the relationship in the community rather than on maximizing its production. In terms of the social relationship, Torah's economic view can be thought of in conjunction with Sen's concept of poverty. As Sen regards poverty as a persistent deprivation of capabilities in the relationships, economically underprivileged in Torah such as slaves, orphans, widows, and sojourners are exactly the categories of poverty defined by Sen. This conceptual convergence can provide a meaningful basis for discussing who are slaves, orphans, widows, and sojourners, and how to implement the social supports that Torah has stressed about them. |
